The September 17, 2016, event for the 4th degree was a visit to Our Lady of Consolation Shrine in Carey, Ohio. Unfortunately, we had a low turn out and 4 canceled that day but in attendance were Roger & Ann Harraman, Don & Kathy Yockey, Darrell & Brenda Starr-Jude, and Jerry & Dawn Kline. (Jerry and Dawn departed before the picture was taken.)

The day held a bit of rain off and on for us—but what an experience to be able to walk though the Holy Doors. If you are unaware, Pope Francis has declared a Jubilee Year of Mercy and for the 12 months we are to focus on and deepen our gratitude for the loving mercy of God.

In this year of Mercy, passing through a Holy Door is part of the pilgrimage that all Catholics are encouraged to make, whether a trip to Rome or a trip to the cathedrals or specifically designated churches in their own diocese. These pilgrimages come with special graces and they allow each of us to share in the many blessings of the Holy Year.

In our Diocese, the Carey Shrine is the Holy Door designated by Pope Francis and the same grace that is associated with the Holy Door in Rome will be associated with the local Holy Doors. Passing through the Holy door symbolizes our leaving the world outside and entering into the realm of salvation. What an honor…what an experience!

We enjoyed our day so with Brother Randy…Mass, a delicious lunch, the Stations in the Shrine Park, devotions, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and the privilege of asking the priest, individually for special blessings and prayers.

Blessings abound!

Captain Darrell & Lady Brenda Starr-Jude
